3A District 4 recap November 5, 2013
Tampa Catholic added to the longest winning streak in 3A District 4 this week by beating Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, 56-10. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Crusaders.
Berkeley Prep moved up to 228 from 268 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Buccaneers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Frostproof 21-3.
Jay Smith threw for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Joe Schiano was a key player and the best on defense this week as Berkeley Prep bested the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-1 junior recorded 1 fumble.
T. J. Simmons was the best running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 171 yards as Lakeland Christian bested the Hurricanes. Christian Alexander also contributed to the rushing game with 28 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Alexander and Simmons, the Vikings have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Alexander is tops in the league in passing with 1,552 yards, while Simmons has rushed for 1,111 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Mike Gregory's team's Motlow, with 689 yards on 44 catches.
Fort Meade was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 3A District 4. Earlier in the week, the Miners defeated Lakeland Christian 28-25.
