The Cypress Centurions will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Rio Mesa Spartans at 7:00 p.m.
Cypress unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 49-17 loss at the hands of Tustin. Cypress was down 35-10 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Meanwhile, Rio Mesa can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Dos Pueblos 48-6 on the road. The victory was just what Rio Mesa needed coming off of a 28-3 loss in their prior game.
JJ Bittner got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 238 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Bittner was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards. Another player making a difference was Noah Ramos, who gained 133 total yards and two touchdowns.
Cypress' loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Rio Mesa, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Cypress has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 155.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Rio Mesa struggles in that department as they've been even better at 167.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
