Even though the Brimley Bays scored an imposing 57 points on Saturday, the Gaylord Blue Devils still came out on top. Gaylord narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Brimley 59-57. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Gaylord did.
Gaylord's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Gelow led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Cayden Keck was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists and two blocks.
Brimley's loss came despite strong showings from Trey Lynn and Perry LeBlanc. Lynn scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while LeBlanc dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lynn has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Tagerson, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Gaylord's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Brimley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gaylord will take on Alpena at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brimley, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Rudyard at 7:00 p.m. Rudyard has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 268 points over their last four games.
