After flying high against the Otterville Eagles last Tuesday, the Tipton Cardinals came back down to earth. Tipton was outmatched by Versailles on the road and fell 78-49. While losing is never fun, Tipton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Versailles is ranked 47th).
Tipton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Bailey, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Bailey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Zach Moon was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Versailles got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryder Williams out in front who scored 30 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Versailles' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Murdock, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Tipton's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Versailles, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3.
Tipton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-52 win vs. Smithton on the 9th. Versailles has also already played their next match, a 83-32 victory against Buffalo on the 10th.
