The South Dade Buccaneers will venture away from home to take on the Ferguson Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. South Dade has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
South Dade fell victim to American and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 15-0. The Buccaneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
South Dade saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was A. Zamora, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Ferguson never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Coral Gables on Thursday. They blew past the Cavaliers 16-1. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Ashley Barroso looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Briana Canahuate was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Amaya Santamaria was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Ferguson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coral Gables only posted an OBP of .471.
South Dade's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Ferguson, their record is now 5-2.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Dade hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Ferguson struggles in that department as they've averaged .489. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Dade might still be hurting after the 19-4 loss they got from Ferguson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can South Dade avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
