After both having extra time off, the Marietta Blue Devils and the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 4:00 p.m. on December 28th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard on Thursday.
Marietta had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three last Friday. They came out on top against Campbell by a score of 67-54. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as Marietta did.
Marietta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla Day, who scored 28 points. Day is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyann Senior, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sprayberry was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap two weeks ago as they fell 66-60 to Harrison. While losing is never fun, Sprayberry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Harrison is ranked 33rd).
Marietta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Sprayberry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
Marietta couldn't quite finish off Sprayberry in their previous matchup back in November and fell 50-47. Can Marietta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
