The Osbourn Park Yellowjackets will head out on the road to square off against the Potomac Senior Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Osbourn Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Osbourn Park is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Freedom.
Tyler Mills was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Mills was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nick Shifflett made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Evan Charest was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Potomac Senior came out on top against Gar-Field on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Panthers took their game against the Red Wolves 8-4. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Red Wolves on their field since May 3, 2022.
Like Osbourn Park, Potomac Senior also got a great game from a two-way player: Carmine Burkhart. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Potomac Senior is undefeated when Burkhart allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Burkhart was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Theo Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Osbourn Park's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Potomac Senior, their record now sits at 5-6.
Potomac Senior's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Osbourn Park has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game.
