2A Conference 3 recap November 13, 2013
East Lincoln extended the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 3 this week by beating West Lincoln, 42-15. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Mustangs.
Maiden took down Lincolnton 42-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jake McRee threw for 178 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win.
The Blue Devils' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground T.J. Vick chipped in 101 yards. Ricky Taylor helped Maiden's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 32 yards.
He went 9-16 with 1 interception.
Vick was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 5 carries, he ran for 101 yards as Maiden bested the Wolves. Taylor also contributed to the rushing game with 53 yards on the ground.
Frank Snider's team's McRee and Woods have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback McRee has thrown for 2,490 yards this season, while Woods has 35 catches for 616 yards. East Lincoln's Chaz Surratt leads the league in rushing yards with 867.
An important game coming up in 2A Conference 3 this week will be when Mike Byus' team takes on Bandys. The Mustangs are in fourth place, while the Trojans are in sixth place.
Bandys and Newton-Conover played the most contested game in the league this week, with Bandys eventually emerging with a 7-6 victory.
