The Kodiak Bears are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Homer Mariners at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Homer took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Kodiak, who comes in off a win.
Kodiak is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Redington on Saturday. The Bears not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 31, 2024 (when they won 15-1).

Jeremy Mahle and Gavin Peterson did most of the damage at the plate: Mahle went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Peterson got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Peterson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Robert Anderson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Kodiak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Redington only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, Homer unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 12-8 to Kenai Central.
Clyde Clemens was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI. Willem Hakala was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Homer's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Kodiak, their record is now 2-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kodiak has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Homer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Kodiak suffered a grim 17-7 defeat to Homer when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
