The Quincy Trojans will take on the Mt. Shasta Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Quincy will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Quincy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Modoc.
Jake Thackeray made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lancen Walke, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double. Troy Ayotte also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Shasta). Everything went their way against Trinity last Friday as they made off with a 20-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won six in a row.
Like Quincy, Mt. Shasta also got a great game from a two-way player: BEN KENNEDY. Throwing, KENNEDY tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hayden Porteous tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. KENNEDY also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mt. Shasta is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 10-11 otherwise. At the plate, KENNEDY went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Porteous went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave Porteous a new career-high.
In other batting news, Keikea Ferguson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Mt. Shasta is undefeated when Ferguson posts two or more runs, but 10-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kole Dominguez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
Mt. Shasta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity only posted an OBP of .176.
Quincy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Mt. Shasta, their record is now 14-11.
Mt. Shasta's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Quincy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. It's a different story for Mt. Shasta, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Quincy's hitters? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
