The Kit Carson Wildcats entered their tilt with the Springfield Longhorns with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Kit Carson secured a 39-34 W over Springfield on Saturday. That's another feather in the cap for Kit Carson, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Kit Carson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lindsey Mayhan out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Mayhan hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadaya Buttry, who scored 12 points.
Despite the loss, Springfield still got an impressive performance from Lainee Leathers, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Leathers is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Madison Varando was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Kit Carson pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Springfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
Kit Carson and Stratton will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Stratton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday. As for Springfield, they will head out on the road to take on La Veta at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. La Veta is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
