Meanwhile, Wellsville came tearing into Monday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Red Raiders a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won ten matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Kennedy Perry was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Wellsville got a massive performance out of Makenna Dunbar, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave Dunbar a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lindsay Stuck, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Wellsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hornell only posted a batting average of .050.
Wellsville pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Our Lady of Mercy, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-4.
