The Hackley Hornets will square off against the Fordham Prep Rams at 12:50 p.m. on Saturday.
Hackley couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost to Albany Academy for Boys at home by a decisive 67-51 margin back in December of 2023.
Meanwhile, Fordham Prep had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They took down All Hallows 74-59. Given Fordham Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while All Hallows is ranked 520th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fordham Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Kapfer led the charge by scoring 30 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kapfer has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Jackson, who scored 25 points along with six assists.
Hackley's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Fordham Prep, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
