The Gregori Jaguars pushed their score all the way to 61 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Downey 65-61. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Thursday (57), Gregori still had to take the loss.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayson Powers, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Powers has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Kaleb Smith was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Downey's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayden Coelho, who scored 32 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Coelho has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Collin Eden, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Gregori and nudges their season record down to 9-9. As for Downey, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
Gregori will head out on the road to face off against Enochs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Downey, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Modesto at 7:30 p.m.
