The Sunnyslope Vikings will square off against the Gila Ridge Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sunnyslope has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Gila Ridge will come in with six straight victories.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Sunnyslope's offense. They lost 13-0 to Xavier College Prep on Thursday.
Sunnyslope saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Udall, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Gila Ridge put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. They never let San Luis get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by ten runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Lillyana Price, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Isabella Beltran was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Gila Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least one batters in three consecutive contests.
Gila Ridge pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Sunnyslope, their loss dropped their record down to 11-16.
Both Sunnyslope and Gila Ridge just can't seem to miss. The Vikings have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Gila Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sunnyslope came out on top in a nail-biter against Gila Ridge in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
