The Wilmington Greyhounds will square off against the Union Area Scotties at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Wilmington made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jamestown, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went Wilmington's way against Jamestown on Wednesday as Wilmington made off with a 10-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Greyhounds.
Avery Harlan was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Jewell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Harlan wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Wilmington lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jamestown didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Union Area had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on Riverside with a sharp 13-1 win on Monday. The Scotties have beaten the Panthers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Mia Preuhs made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Preuhs was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Union Area let Addie Nogay and Olivia Williams run wild. Nogay went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Williams went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Nogay has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Benedict, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Wilmington couldn't quite get it done against Union Area in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 as they fell 8-4. Can Wilmington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
