Softball Recap: First Flight Has No Trouble Against Hertford County

First Flight had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 21-run drubbing they dealt Hertford County on Friday. The Nighthawks blew past the Bears 22-1. The Nighthawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 15 runs or more this season.

Avery Winslow was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Winslow was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Mamie Kyger was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Corey, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.

First Flight was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

First Flight's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Hertford County, their defeat was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

First Flight will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bears: the pair will be back at it again later today.
