The Canyon Comanches had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They had just enough and edged Yorba Linda out 66-63. Given Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Yorba Linda is ranked 283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jeremy Loreto out in front who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Loreto has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Staf Yilmazturk, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for Yorba Linda, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-11.
Canyon will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Campbell Hall at 9:00 a.m. on January 27th. Campbell Hall has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,105 points over their last 15 games. As for Yorba Linda, they will be playing at home against Esperanza at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Esperanza is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
