Lakeside is 2-8 against Grovetown since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Lakeside Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Grovetown Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Monday, Lakeside was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 72-68 to New Hampstead. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (63), Lakeside still had to take the loss.
Bryce Reynierson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 34 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mi?keal Grissom, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Lakeside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Grovetown entered their tilt with Brunswick with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Grovetown took down Brunswick 58-41 on Saturday. Given Grovetown's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Brunswick is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
This is the second loss in a row for Lakeside and nudges their season record down to 9-6. As for Grovetown, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Lakeside was taken down by Grovetown 91-62 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Lakeside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
