After a string of six wins, the Minden Whippets's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 49-41 to Grand Island Central Catholic. Minden was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Grand Island Central Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.
Despite the loss, Minden saw an underclassman step up: Myla Emery scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Kinsie Land was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Minden's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minden will take on Ainsworth at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ainsworth will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Minden is ranked eighth). As for Grand Island Central Catholic, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Kearney Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hopefully Kearney Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Tuesday.
