Two dominant backs in Andres Williams and Alejandro Isaza are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Palmer Trinity Falcons will face off against the Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Palmer Trinity blew past Marathon, posting a 40-10 victory on the road. The win was just what Palmer Trinity needed coming off of a 45-20 loss in their prior matchup.
Williams got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Another player making a difference was Lou Kipp, who rushed for 43 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Carroll entered their tilt with Ransom Everglades with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Archbishop Carroll blew past Ransom Everglades 35-13.
Archbishop Carroll got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaza out in front who rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Ryan Castro was another key contributor, rushing for 123 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Another reason for the win was Archbishop Carroll's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Kendrick Pembleton and Ivan Quesada who racked up six sacks between them.
Palmer Trinity's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Archbishop Carroll, their victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Palmer Trinity has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Archbishop Carroll struggles in that department as they've been even better at 354.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Palmer Trinity was able to grind out a solid win over Archbishop Carroll when the teams last played back in September, winning 23-14. Does Palmer Trinity have another victory up their sleeve, or will Archbishop Carroll turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
