Las Lomas and Acalanes are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Las Lomas Knights will be playing at home against the Acalanes Dons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Las Lomas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Las Lomas was fully in charge, breezing past McClymonds 69-41 at home. With that victory, Las Lomas brought their scoring average up to 57.5 points per game.
Las Lomas can attribute much of their success to Julian Vaucher, who scored 21 points along with 5 steals, and Xayne Mojadiddi, who went 8 for 14 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 1 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which Vaucher has scored at least 25% of Las Lomas' points. Another player making a difference was Colin Pangilinan, who scored 6 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Acalanes suffered a tough 69-49 loss at the hands of Dougherty Valley on Saturday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Acalanes in their matchups with Dougherty Valley: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite their loss, Acalanes saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gavin Dodge, who scored 17 points, was perhaps the best of all. The matchup was Dodge's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Maddox Malm was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
The victory got Las Lomas back to even at 1-1. As for Acalanes, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Las Lomas was able to grind out a solid win over Acalanes when the teams last played back in February, winning 74-62. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Acalanes' Jake Davis, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 10 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Las Lomas to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
