Tanner Williams and Wesley Tew were among the main playmakers for Midway as the former threw for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the latter rushed for 131 yards and one TD on only six carries. The dominant performance also gave Williams a new career-high in passer rating (156.3).
Midway's run defense was locked in: Spring Creek could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Brayden Stowers for the heroic effort on defense: he. Midway didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 18.9.
Midway's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Stowers was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself. Stowers is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Midway received some extra help from Stowers, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, James Kenan waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Eagles, posting a 49-7 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Eagles are ranked 382nd).
Special teams played a big role in the game for James Kenan, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kentrell Morrisey, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Midway's record is now 5-1. As for James Kenan, their record now sits at 4-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Midway has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 265.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like James Kenan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 273.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Midway was dealt a bruising 41-6 defeat at the hands of James Kenan when the teams last played back in August of 2024. Thankfully for the Raiders, Tyquise Wilson (who picked up 90 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 52 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
