Redlands is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Cajon, falling 9-1.
Redlands saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shay Figueroa, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases were Figueroa's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Yucaipa got themselves on the board against Redlands East Valley on Thursday, but Redlands East Valley never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Wildcats. The victory continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won eight in a row.
Not much got past Emily Mendoza, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Redlands East Valley off the board. Mendoza has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Janelle Erickson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Pettey, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Yucaipa hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive contests.
Yucaipa's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Redlands, their loss dropped their record down to 4-17.
