Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] recap October 22, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Meyersdale, who took down 136th ranked Berlin Brothersvalley, 46-38. Gavin Berkley ran for 152 yards during the win.
The Red Raiders moved up to 198 from 257 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Western Pennsylvania [WPAC]. Meyersdale was able to move up by beating the Mountaineers 46-38.
Braden Fochtman was a beast in the backfield as Berlin Brothersvalley lost to Chris Schrock's team.
Fochtman was a passing and rushing force as Doug Paul's team fell to the Red Raiders. Fochtman's key target this week was Nick Stockwell, who caught 4 passes for 65 yards.
Conner Christner was the best wideout in the league this week as Meyersdale bested the Mountaineers. Christner racked up 6 receptions for 82 yards. Kyle Deakins helped Meyersdale's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 22 yards.
Windber's Devon Tomlinson and Matt Barkley have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Tomlinson has thrown for 966 yards this season, while Barkley has 35 catches for 617 yards. Fochtman from Berlin Brothersvalley leads the league in rushing with 1,521 yards.
North Star's Thomas Miller needs only 21 yards against Blacklick Valley next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 126 carries Miller has put up 979 yards this year.
A big matchup in Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] this week will be when Shade takes on the Red Raiders. The Panthers are in sixth place, while Meyersdale is in first place.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Portage beat Conemaugh Township 49-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
