The New Waverly Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Shepherd Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
New Waverly won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were the victim of a rough 80-54 defeat at the hands of Coldspring-Oakhurst. While losing is never fun, New Waverly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1190th, while the Trojans are ranked 454th).
Meanwhile, Shepherd unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a hard 48-33 fall against Crockett.
The losing side was boosted by Tristen Cullum, who scored four points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
New Waverly dropped their record down to 11-18 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Shepherd, their loss dropped their record down to 17-13.
New Waverly might still be hurting after the 62-39 loss they got from the Pirates in their previous meeting back in January. Can New Waverly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
