The Durant Cougars entered their tilt with the Armwood Hawks with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Durant took down Armwood 52-37 on Wednesday. Given Durant's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Armwood is ranked 581st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Austin White was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Wylde Correa, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Armwood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Miles Davis, who scored eight points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Davis grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaberry Nereus, who scored five points along with two steals and two blocks.
Durant pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Armwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Durant and Riverview will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Armwood, they will head out on the road to square off against East Bay at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
