CHANDLER, Ariz. -
Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) nabbed the lead on a touchdown run by
Tyrell Smith with 1:00 remaining in the fourth quarter to upset
Highland (Gilbert, Ariz.) 14-7 on Saturday.
After nabbing the lead on a touchdown, the Hawks went into halftime with a 7-6 lead. The Huskies took the lead to win the game on a Smith touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Hamilton still trailed by one point going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped the Chandler school pull out the victory.
Highland's only touchdown came on a 5-yard pass from
Blake Young to
Trey Tyler in the second quarter.
Led by
Garrett Rand, Coming into the game the Huskies had allowed 18.8 points per game this year. Hamilton held firm on the defensive front, and kept Highland well below the 22.3 points it had been averaging per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 44-14 win for the Chandler school.
The loss comes after Highland defeated Basha 24-21 last week. The win brought Hamilton's winning streak to three games.
Hamilton (7-2) will play an I Section I game against Perry next week, while Highland (6-3) will take on Chandler also in an I Section I game.
