The Leo Lions will square off against the Garrett Railroaders at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Leo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season.
Leo lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Lions put the hurt on the Cadets with a sharp 53-30 victory on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Leo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mackenzie Collins, who posted 11 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds. Collins has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Leah Shappell was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Garrett, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Prairie Heights by a score of 55-44 on Saturday.
Leo better keep an eye on Sarah DePew. She was instrumental in Garrett's win, shooting 4-for-6 from downtown and dropping a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. DePew has become a key player for the Railroaders: the team is 3-1 when she posts at least ten boards, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Emma Coffman, who earned 11 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Leo's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Garrett, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Leo has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Garrett struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 32.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Leo took their victory against Garrett in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 57-37 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Railroaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
