Basketball Recap: Elk Grove Wins Going Away Against Oakmont

While Elk Grove didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Oakmont Vikings with a sharp 72-47 win on Tuesday. That looming 72-47 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Thundering Herd yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elk Grove to victory, but perhaps none more so than Noah Hargrave, who went 7 of 17 en route to 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Those six steals gave Hargrave a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Raga, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 18 points.

Elk Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Elk Grove pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Oakmont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Elk Grove will be taking part in a tournament against Colfax at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Colfax will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Elk Grove surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oakmont, they will take on Whitney in a tournament on Thursday.
