Given Bishop's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Santa Gertrudis Academy is ranked 633rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Bishop to victory were Joseph Garza and Donny Thomas. Garza scored 23 points along with three steals, while Thomas went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 0 assists. The matchup was Thomas' 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kristian Ramos, who scored two points along with 13 rebounds and five assists.
Bishop pushed their record up to 13-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop is on the road again on Friday and play against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at 8:00 p.m. on December 15th. One thing working in Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matches. As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Tuloso-Midway at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
