The Brownell Talbot Raiders will take on the Mead Raiders in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Brownell Talbot is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Arlington on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Brownell Talbot came up short against Arlington, falling 58-34. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Avery Nichols, who posted 15 points and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbi Gibbs, who had six points and eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 25th straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Mercy and fell 69-18. The Raiders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-14.
Elizabeth Brennan was Mead's leading scorer, having posted five points. Stella Charles held things down on the boards with four rebounds. Lauren Miller took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Brownell Talbot's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Mead, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Brownell Talbot has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Brownell Talbot against Mead in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 57-10 win. In that contest, Brownell Talbot amassed a halftime lead of 41-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
