The Shelton Gaels waltzed into Friday's matchup with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Hamden 42-28. Given Shelton's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Hamden is ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shelton had a senior duo take command as David Dojlidko gained 233 total yards and three touchdowns and Michael Kinik threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes. Dojlidko was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 69 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Hamden lost, one person who can't be blamed is Charles Hebron iii. Despite the final result, he rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.
Shelton is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Hamden, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shelton will take on Xavier at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Xavier will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Hamden will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Notre Dame at 9:55 a.m. on November 11th.
