5A Continental recap Oct. 3, 2012
Chaparral extended the longest winning streak in 5A Continental this week by beating Highlands Ranch, 49-3. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Wolverines.
Regis Jesuit was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Regis Jesuit 21-10. The Raiders came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Chaparral's dynamic duo of Max Kuhns and Brandon Malone proved tough for the Falcons to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kuhns threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns and Malone had 95 yards receiving. Blake Harris helped Chaparral's passing attack out by catching four balls for 55 yards.
Tyler Ketron was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 201 yards on eight carries as Douglas County beat Highlands Ranch. Teammate Trey Smith added to the ground attack by rushing for 169 yards.
Jeff Morgan made the biggest impact on defense this week as Darrel Gorham's team lost to the Wolverines. The 5-foot-9 senior pulled down one interception.
Chaparral's Kuhns and Mitchell Parsons have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Kuhns has thrown for 1081 yards this season, while Parsons, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 24 catches for 373 yards. Smith from the Huskies leads the league in rushing with 806 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Continental this week will be when Mountain Vista takes on the Wolverines. The Golden Eagles are currently in sixth, while Chaparral is in first.
