Softball Recap: Bastrop Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Bastrop had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the McCallum Knights a 15-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bears also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2018.

Ella Griesenbeck made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Merritt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Lanie Coy, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3.

Bastrop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in seven consecutive matches.

Bastrop's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for McCallum, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bastrop will host Richards School for Young Women Leaders at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th.
