Even though the Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, the Altamonte Christian Eagles still came out on top. Altamonte Christian took their match against Winthrop College Prep Academy 65-55. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Altamonte Christian.
Altamonte Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcus Goss Jr., who scored 18 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Goss Jr. has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Almeda, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Winthrop College Prep Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jason Johnson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was TJ Worthy, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Winthrop College Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Altamonte Christian only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Altamonte Christian has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.
Altamonte Christian and Orangewood Christian will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Orangewood Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 633rd, while Altamonte Christian is ranked 227th). As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, Winthrop College Prep Academy and Palmetto will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Palmetto is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
