It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Fayetteville Bulldogs had no problem doing just that on Friday. They managed a 30-24 victory over the Mavericks. Fayetteville's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Fayetteville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Christian Setzer led the charge by rushing for 140 yards and a touchdown. Setzer is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Drake Lindsey was another key contributor, throwing for 310 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.1% of his passes.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Fayetteville, racking up 12 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Nathan Kachel: he added nine points with three field goals, and another three kicking extra points.
Despite the loss, Southside still got an impressive performance from Isaac Gregory, who picked up 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Zimmerman, who threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Fayetteville's victory bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Southside, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Fayetteville will face off against Conway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Conway has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 531 points over their last 11 matches. Southside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
