Hoggard is 10-0 against the Pirates since February of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Hoggard Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Topsail Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Hoggard is looking to tack on another W to their 14-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Hoggard can now show off 16 landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They really took it to West Brunswick for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-8 victory at home. Given Hoggard's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Trojans are ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hoggard found their leader in underclassman Tristan Shivers, who scored 23 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shivers has scored all season. Sarah Elgart was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact Topsail proved on Friday. They managed a 47-41 victory over North Brunswick.
Emmy Clark was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed five or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Charley Moore, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Hoggard's victory bumped their record up to 19-1. As for Topsail, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's matchup: Hoggard have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 44.1% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Topsail, though, as they've only made 28.9% of their threes this season. Given Hoggard's sizable advantage in that area, the Pirates will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything went Hoggard's way against the Pirates in their previous meeting back in January as the Vikings made off with a 58-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoggard since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
