Granada Hills Charter is a perfect 10-0 against Taft since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Highlanders will look to defend their home field against the Toreadors at 3:00 p.m. Granada Hills Charter will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Granada Hills Charter barely beat El Camino Real the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Highlanders put the hurt on the Royals with a sharp 11-1 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Highlanders have won 14 games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Addison Moorman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lainey Brown, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Annabella Ramirez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Taft, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Chatsworth on Wednesday as they made off with a 10-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Toreadors needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Chiara Cioffi made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Cioffi was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Katelyn Levine was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriana Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Taft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Granada Hills Charter's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Taft, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-9.
Everything went Granada Hills Charter's way against Taft in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Granada Hills Charter made off with a 20-4 win. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Toreadors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
