East Ridge is 9-1 against Tavares since January of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The East Ridge Knights will square off against the Tavares Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, East Ridge was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 76-75 to Pasco.
East Ridge might have lost, but man, Jordan Corman was a machine: he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 boards. Corman is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Julian Estevaz was another key player, putting up 20 points and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, East Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Tavares rang in the new year with a 67-54 victory over Freedom on Monday.
Tavares' win came from a few key players East Ridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was IZAYIA WILLIAMS, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of DYLAN CAMPBELL, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds.
Tavares' win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for East Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Ridge has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Tavares struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
East Ridge barely slipped by Tavares in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 71-70. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Ridge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
