Russell County has gone a perfect 5-0 against Monroe County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Lakers will look to defend their home field against the Falcons at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Russell County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Rockcastle County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lakers fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 12-10 on Friday. The Lakers have struggled against the Rockets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Brylie Hardwick was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Mallie McQueary was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Jaylee Roy was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Monroe County didn't have quite enough to beat Breckinridge County on Saturday and fell 11-10.
Callie Wheeler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maelee Ford, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Monroe County dropped their record down to 3-8-1 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Russell County, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Russell County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Monroe County struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Russell County took their win against Monroe County when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-3 score. Will the Lakers repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
