5A District 11 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Estero took down Cypress Lake 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Eric McFadden ran for 144 yards in the win.
Cape Coral made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,428 from 6,806. The improvement came about via a 24-17 victory over Mariner last week.
The Tritons' dynamic duo of Joey Lantz and Romario Blissett proved tough for the Seahawks to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lantz threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns and Blissett had 117 yards receiving. Jaylen Mitchell helped Mariner's passing attack out by catching four balls for 54 yards.
Eamon Smart was the most productive running back in 5A District 11 this week. He ran for 212 yards on 23 carries as Cape Coral lost to Cape Coral. Teammate Rashaan Gaymon added to the ground attack by rushing for 21 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Christian Phillips and McFadden the Wildcats have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Phillips leads the league in passing with 1257 yards, while McFadden has rushed for 1067 yards this season. Larry Gary's team's Gaymon leads the league in receiving yards with 407 on 28 catches.
Smart of the the Seahawks is only 51 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Smart has rushed for 949 yards on 138 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chris Siner's team takes on Estero. At the moment, the Tritons are in fourth, while Rich Dombroski's team is in first.
The Wildcats led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on the Panthers. McFadden in the win.
