Anna Kate Barber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mia Hemenway, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Middleburg). They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Lincoln on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Broncos considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Middleburg also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Karleigh Sanford gave up three earned runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Ariany Reynoso was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Rylee Patterson was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Middleburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Chiles' record now sits at 19-3. As for Middleburg, their record is now 13-15.
Middleburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chiles hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. It's a different story for Middleburg, though, as they've only averaged .226. Will they be able to contain Chiles' hitters?
