West Central recap Oct. 3, 2012
Macomb extended the longest winning streak in West Central this week by beating Pittsfield-Griggsville-Perry, 27-24. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Bombers.
Illini West moved up to 177 from 203 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Illini West was able to make the jump by beating Orion 46-27.
West Hancock co-op [Hamilton/Warsaw]'s dynamic duo of Coy Dorothy and Austin Hardy proved tough for Sherrard to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Dorothy threw for 262 yards and one touchdown and Hardy had 127 yards receiving. Tyler Dooley helped West Hancock co-op [Hamilton/Warsaw]'s passing attack out by catching two balls for 55 yards.
Brody Gronewold was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 151 yards on 13 carries as Illini West fell to the Tigers. Teammate Ben Gittings added to the ground attack by rushing for 113 yards.
West Hancock co-op [Hamilton/Warsaw]'s Dorothy and Hardy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading West Central in both passing and receiving yards. Dorothy has thrown for 1898 yards this season, while Hardy has 42 catches for 786 yards. Illini West's Gittings leads the league in rushing yards with 551.
Going into this week's game against the Saukees, Brian Lewton's team's Dorothy needs 102 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rockridge takes on Monmouth-Roseville. The Rockets are currently in second, while the Titans are in fourth.
Macomb and Pittsfield-Griggsville-Perry played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Macomb eventually emerging with a 27-24 victory.
