The Ridgway Demons fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Nucla Mustangs on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 44-41. Ridgway has not had much luck with Nucla recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Demons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddie Miller, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Miller also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Elle Borsari, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ridgway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ridgway's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.7 points per game. As for Nucla, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ridgway will square off against Dove Creek at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Dove Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Thursday. As for Nucla, they will head out on the road to face off against Dolores at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Dolores has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 5.
