The Sunlake Seahawks will challenge the Auburn Riverside Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Sunlake will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Land O' Lakes, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Seahawks never let the Gators get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Seahawks.
The result came thanks to Madison Siders's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emily Ward and Abigail Avant did most of the damage at the plate: Ward went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple, while Avant scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Lexi Romero was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Sunlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Land O' Lakes only posted a batting average of .154.
Meanwhile, Auburn Riverside gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Zephyrhills 6-5.
Kylee Curtis looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hannah Potter, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Addison Opsahl, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Auburn Riverside's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Sunlake, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sunlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Auburn Riverside struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
