Washington County and Green County are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Commanders will take on the Dragons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Washington County has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Green County will arrive with three straight wins.
Bethlehem hit Washington County with a four-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Commanders came up short against the Eagles, falling 12-2.
Washington County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Roution, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
Green County came out on top against North Hardin on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Trojans. Considering the Dragons have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Keelan Curry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Andrew Houk was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 12 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Allen, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Green County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Hardin only posted an OBP of .304.
Green County's record is now 12-5. As for Washington County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Washington County couldn't quite get it done against Green County in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 6-2. Can the Commanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
