For Fernandina Beach, this counts as revenge for the 55-38 loss Baker County walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Leading Fernandina Beach to victory were Naslynn Morris and Savina Wells. Morris scored seven points along with nine rebounds and five steals, while Wells scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wells has scored at least a third of Fernandina Beach's points. Another player making a difference was Julianna Miller, who scored five points along with four steals.
Despite the defeat, Baker County saw an underclassman step up: Yamise Haygood scored nine points along with nine steals. Haygood is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Baker County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Fernandina Beach's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Baker County, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fernandina Beach will take on KIPP Bold City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. KIPP Bold City is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses. As for Baker County, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ridgeview at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Ridgeview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Thursday.
