Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Emporia Spartans proved on Tuesday. They took down Topeka 57-38. The win made it back-to-back wins for Emporia.
Cooper Rech was a one-man wrecking crew for Emporia as he scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rech has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of River Peters, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Topeka lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jalen Freeman, who scored 11 points. Da'mykel Hales was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Emporia has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Topeka, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.
Emporia will be playing in front of their home fans against Washburn Rural at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Washburn Rural is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. As for Topeka, they will take on Junction City at TBD on Friday. Junction City will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Topeka surely won't give up without a fight.
