The Mount Academy Eagles put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They secured a 75-71 W over Highland. Given Mount Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Highland is ranked 362nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Mount Academy to victory were Jake Maendel and Dennis Hofer. Maendel scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks, while Hofer scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Maendel has scored at least 25% of Mount Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Baird, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Mount Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Highland, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Academy will face off against Millbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Millbrook is on a four-game streak of home wins, Mount Academy a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to face off against Ellenville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
